HOW MATCHING AND PROFILE RECOMMENDATION WORK ON IDLING
IDLING uses a system of rules and scores to select, rank and display potentially compatible profiles.
This document explains in simple terms what information is used, how selected preferences influence results and who ultimately decides whether a connection is established.
Checks performed on photographs and the presentation video are intended to verify profile authenticity and confirm that certain usage requirements are met. These checks are not used to rate the User’s attractiveness or to decide their compatibility with other people.
WHAT IS MATCHING?
Matching is the system used by IDLING to select, rank and display profiles that may be compatible with the preferences indicated by the User.
To do so, the Platform uses information incorporated into the profile, selected preferences, location and, when the User chooses to complete it, answers to the personality questionnaire.
The system offers suggestions, but does not make the decision to start a connection for the User. Each person freely decides whether to accept or reject a profile, and a connection is only established when both people express interest.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN MATCHING?
To participate in the matching system, the User must have an active account, have completed the necessary profile information and meet the requirements established to use compatibility and connection functionalities.
Among other aspects, it may be necessary to:
Have completed the mandatory account and profile data.
Be at least 18 years old.
Have verified the telephone number.
Have provided the location necessary to apply proximity preferences.
Have incorporated the required photographs, presentation video and voice notes.
Have completed profile authenticity checks.
Not have the account suspended, paused or limited.
Have the necessary consents to use optional or specially protected data in functionalities that depend on them.
Participation in matching may be interrupted or limited when the account is paused, suspended or inactive, or when information necessary to provide the service is missing. Lack or withdrawal of consent to use optional or specially protected data will not prevent participation in basic matching, although it may limit functionalities that specifically depend on those data.
HOW ARE PROFILES SELECTED?
The system first applies a series of basic requirements to determine which profiles may form part of the suggestions shown to each User.
Among these requirements may be:
The genders each User wishes to meet.
The selected age range.
Location and the configured maximum distance.
Indicated languages.
Dating intentions or the type of relationship sought.
The existence of compatible preferences between both profiles.
Fulfilment of registration and verification requirements.
Account activity and availability.
Exclusion of previously connected, rejected or blocked profiles.
When a profile does not meet a requirement configured as essential, it is not included among the corresponding suggestions.
These requirements act as prior filters and are intended to prevent the system from showing profiles that do not match the basic conditions selected by users.
ESSENTIAL PREFERENCES AND INDICATIVE PREFERENCES
IDLING allows the User to configure their preferences and mark certain characteristics as red lines.
Preferences configured as red lines function as essential requirements. When a profile does not meet one of these requirements, it will be excluded from the corresponding suggestions.
Preferences that are not configured as red lines will be taken into account on an indicative basis. This means the system may show profiles that do not fully match one of them when it detects compatibility in other aspects.
For example, if a location is configured as a preference but not as a red line, the system may suggest profiles from another location when there is sufficient affinity on other criteria. The Platform will clearly identify which preferences function as red lines and which are applied only to rank or personalise suggestions.
The User may select as red lines up to the maximum number permitted by the Platform at any time and subsequently modify their preferences. Changes may affect the new suggestions they receive.
Specially protected data, such as sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion, political opinions or information relating to sexual life, will only be used as preferences or compatibility criteria when the User has given the corresponding explicit consent. If there is no consent or it is withdrawn, such data will not be used to select, exclude or rank profiles.
HOW ARE SUGGESTIONS RANKED?
Profiles that meet the basic requirements are ranked using a compatibility score.
The compatibility score is calculated only among profiles that have previously passed the essential requirements. Indicative preferences may modify the order of suggestions, but do not replace requirements configured as essential.
To calculate this score, IDLING may take into account:
Information included in the profiles.
Preferences selected by both people.
Indicated interests and values.
Relationship intentions and goals.
Certain aspects related to lifestyle.
Communication and relationship style.
Location and proximity.
Answers to the personality questionnaire, when the User chooses to complete it.
The degree of match with preferences configured as indicative.
Use of specially protected data in the compatibility calculation requires the User’s explicit consent. In the absence of such consent, those data will not be taken into account to calculate, rank or exclude profiles.
The various elements do not necessarily have the same importance. The system combines the available criteria to estimate which profiles may be potentially compatible.
The score obtained is used to rank and select suggestions. It does not represent a general assessment of the person, does not determine that a relationship is suitable and does not guarantee affinity, reciprocity or success in a possible connection.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONNAIRE
The personality questionnaire is optional, unless the Platform expressly informs that it is necessary to access a specific functionality.
When the User chooses to complete it, their answers may be used to identify certain preferences, communication styles, interests, values and relationship styles, in order to personalise recommendations.
IDLING may generate results or summaries derived from the answers for use in the compatibility system.
The User may consult information on the processing of these data, their mandatory or optional character and the rights they may exercise in the Privacy Policy.
ARE PHOTOGRAPHS OR VIDEO USED TO SCORE ATTRACTIVENESS?
No. IDLING does not use an attractiveness score obtained from photographs or video to decide which people are shown as potentially compatible.
Photographs and the presentation video are used to:
Check that the video corresponds to the same person appearing in the profile photograph.
Strengthen profile authenticity.
Prevent impersonation and false profiles.
Check that the photographs required to complete the profile have been provided.
Verify certain basic image quality conditions.
These checks may determine whether the profile meets the requirements necessary to participate in matching, but they do not intervene in the compatibility score or rank profiles according to physical appearance.
The check makes it possible to determine whether the photograph and video correspond to the same person, but it does not constitute a liveness proof or certify the User’s civil identity. Passing it also does not guarantee a person’s background, intentions or future conduct.
DISPLAY AND PROTECTION OF THE PRESENTATION VIDEO
The presentation video may be shown to other users during the recommendation and connection process, in accordance with the Platform’s operation.
To help protect this content, IDLING may incorporate a watermark or other measures intended to make downloading, use or dissemination outside the Platform more difficult.
A User who accesses another person’s video may not copy, record, download, share or use it outside IDLING without the authorisation of the person concerned, except in cases permitted by applicable law.
These measures help reduce the risk of improper use of the video, but cannot absolutely guarantee that a third party cannot make a capture or recording by external means.
HOW IS LOCATION USED?
IDLING uses the location provided by the User to show nearby profiles and apply selected distance preferences.
Distance may be used as a requirement to exclude profiles outside the configured geographic scope or as a criterion to rank suggestions, depending on the options available on the Platform.
The User may manage the location permission from their device settings. When the Platform allows a location to be entered or selected manually, they may use that option without granting access to the device’s location.
Disabling it may prevent or limit proximity and matching functionalities that need to know the location.
IDLING does not use location to guarantee that two people are actually in a specific place or to monitor their movements outside the functionalities described.
HOW ARE SUGGESTIONS SHOWN?
IDLING offers a limited and progressive selection of potentially compatible profiles, rather than showing an unlimited list of people.
As a general rule, the system may offer a new suggestion every one or two days, provided there are profiles that meet the applicable requirements. This frequency may vary depending on profile availability, the User’s preferences, location, account status and the Platform’s operation.
Each suggestion will remain available for a limited period of three days. If no decision is taken within that period, the suggestion may expire and cease to be available.
The User may simultaneously maintain up to three active slots or suggestions, without prejudice to limitations that may apply as a result of account status or measures provided for in the Terms and Conditions.
The concrete conditions of availability, validity and number of suggestions will be shown on the Platform. If these elements change in a relevant way, IDLING will inform the User through the enabled means.
WHO DECIDES WHETHER A CONNECTION IS CREATED?
Matching only proposes potentially compatible profiles.
Each User independently decides whether to accept or reject a suggestion. A connection only occurs when both people express interest.
IDLING does not oblige the User to accept an introduction, start a conversation, maintain a connection or participate in an in-person meeting.
Once the connection is established, users may communicate using the functionalities enabled on the Platform and may end it in accordance with the rules described in the Terms and Conditions of Use.
STARTING AND DEVELOPING A CONNECTION
When two users express mutual interest, a connection or guided journey within IDLING may begin.
The journey allows both people to communicate through the functionalities enabled by the Platform and to progress gradually towards a possible in-person meeting.
According to IDLING’s current operation, each User may maintain a single active conversation or journey. While an active connection exists, access to new conversations may remain limited.
During the journey, each person may express interest in progressing using the option enabled on the Platform. When both people express that interest, IDLING may open the functionalities necessary to propose or organise a date.
Accepting a suggestion or starting a journey does not oblige anyone to maintain communication, continue the connection or participate in an in-person meeting. Any User may end it in accordance with the available options and with the Terms and Conditions of Use.
SAFETY, MODERATION AND ACCESS TO NEW SUGGESTIONS
IDLING may take into account account status, breaches of the Terms and Conditions, reports received and certain indicators related to the security and proper use of the Platform.
These elements do not necessarily modify the compatibility score between two profiles, but may temporarily affect:
The possibility of appearing among other users’ suggestions.
The number of available slots or suggestions.
Access to new introductions or connections.
The frequency with which profiles are shown.
Use of certain functionalities.
Temporary participation in the matching system.
IDLING allows reporting of certain conduct, including interruptions of communication that may be considered contrary to community rules. Reports will be subject to requirements and limits intended to prevent abusive use.
The existence of a report will not by itself determine automatic application of a measure. IDLING may assess the available information, seriousness, repetition, context and the possible existence of legitimate reasons to end a connection.
When a breach is established, proportionate measures may be adopted, including:
Temporary reduction of the number of available slots or suggestions.
Temporary limitation of access to new connections.
Temporary suspension of matching.
Suspension of the account.
Cancellation of the account in serious or repeated cases.
Where applicable, suspension of matching or of the account may last up to three months, in accordance with the rules communicated on the Platform.
A person will not be penalised for ending a connection when there are reasons of safety, wellbeing, discomfort, loss of interest or another legitimate cause. Nor will the User be required to reveal personal or specially sensitive information to justify their decision.
When a measure produces relevant consequences for the User’s access to IDLING functionalities, they may request its review via support@idlingapp.com.
Criteria relating to conduct, reports, moderation, suspension and cancellation of accounts are developed in the Terms and Conditions of Use.
CAN THE OPERATION OF MATCHING CHANGE?
IDLING may adjust the criteria, filters and operation of the system to:
Improve the quality of recommendations.
Adapt functionalities during the beta phase.
Correct errors or unexpected results.
Prevent fraud and abusive use.
Incorporate new preferences.
Comply with legal obligations.
Improve the security and operation of the Platform.
Not all adjustments will require modification of this document.
When relevant changes occur in the types of data used, in the main criteria or in the consequences of the system for users, IDLING will update this information and communicate it through the Platform when necessary.
If the change requires new consent, IDLING will request it before using the data for the new purpose.
USER OPTIONS
The User may:
Modify the available search and compatibility preferences.
Set certain preferences as essential or indicative, when the Platform allows the choice.
Decide what optional information to incorporate into their profile.
Manage the visibility and use of certain optional data through the available options.
Accept or reject each suggestion.
Modify the location permission.
Pause or delete their account.
Withdraw consents given, bearing in mind that withdrawal of consent necessary for a functionality may prevent continued use of it.
Request additional information on the general operation of matching.
Requests related to privacy and data protection may be addressed to privacy@idlingapp.com.
Requests for review of limitations, suspensions or measures affecting access to functionalities may be addressed to support@idlingapp.com.
AUTOMATED PROCESSING AND USER DECISION
The matching system automatically performs selection, filtering and ranking of profiles based on the criteria described in this document.
These operations constitute an automated recommendation system and may involve profiling based on information provided by the User and their interaction with the Platform.
However, the system does not decide for the User whether they should start a connection. The decision to accept or reject a suggestion always belongs to each person, and a connection requires acceptance by both.
When a decision based solely on automated means may produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect the User, the safeguards provided by law will apply, including, where appropriate, the right to request human intervention, express one’s point of view and contest the decision.
Matching generates automated recommendations, but the decision to accept or reject a profile always belongs to the User. If IDLING were in the future to incorporate a decision based solely on automated means that produces legal effects or significantly affects the User, it would inform in advance about its operation and about the applicable safeguards and rights.
